Week of June 4 – 10 // Walking In The Light // 1 John 1:5-10

How do we live in fellowship with God and other people?

Box 7 Tips:

  • If you did not try last week’s tip of finding your “spot” for quiet time, check out that tip from last week.
  • As you get settled into Move-Ins, you can ask a more experienced member or staff about how to save time in your daily routine.
  • If you have not already established a Box 7 small group or “Focus Group,” start paying attention to who you actually see often during the day. Invite them to join you for a Focus Group time this week, then commit to meet more often.

Plan: thinking ahead, where and how will I spend time with God?

Pray: where & when will I pray? what & who will I pray for?

Pursue: who is in my Focus Group, and how will we set aside time?

Options for related reading or study

John 3:16-21

Psalm 32

John affirms that God is pure light. Even with our human tendency to sin, God provides a way for us to walk honestly with Him and other people.

Key Verse

  • "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Spending a minute or two in prayer before reading God’s Word or listening to a podcast can be helpful to calm your soul in a drum corps summer. A conversation with God can be simple, asking Him to understand how his truth applies to you. You can also ask Him to be working at your corps.

  • Example prayer: “God, you are the true light we need. I want to let your light into the areas of my life that I can't fix. Help me to not be afraid to confess to you and to my friends here when I sin. Thank you for your love and cleansing through Jesus. Amen.”

Read - 1 John 1:5-10

You can read the passage in your Bible or favorite app. Re-reading (like doing multiple reps on music) can help you understand the scripture more.

Listen - “Walking in the Light”
from Breakaway Ministries App or Stream Online

35 minutes, epilogue is optional

Respond - Personal Reflection & Obedience

Have you ever experienced the relief of honestly admitting your sin, anger, or doubt to someone, while still being loved by them?

Is there any present situation, here in drum corps or at home, that is a burden you need to confess? How will you do that?

Share - Focus Group Times

Schedule a short time with a small group (3-4 people is best) focused on your section, tour job, housing, or staff. You can have multiple Focus Group meetings each week, and combine with routines like stretching, eating, or dot-book work. You can read the Bible, pray together, use the Discovery Bible Study format, or use these discussion points below.
